The Gift of a Better Holiday

The holidays are a wonderful time of the year when most people are surrounded by family and friends. For those who have gone through a divorce, the holidays can be a difficult time. It is easy to feel overwhelmed by all of the emotions that you are experiencing. In this blog, learn ways to help you manage your emotions during the holiday season after a divorce.

Engage in Holiday Traditions

If you have kids, manage your emotions by continuing holiday traditions. It can be anything from watching a specific movie to baking cookies. Do things that will make them happy and help create new memories. If you don’t have children, try reaching out to friends or family members who do. Spending time with those who love you and want what’s best for you is a great way to manage your emotions during the holidays.

You could also start your own tradition! Whether it’s something as simple as going for a walk in the park on Christmas Eve or taking a cooking class on New Year’s Day, starting your own tradition can give you something to look forward to each year.

Give Yourself Some Time

The holidays can be rough for anyone, let alone someone who is dealing with the aftermath of a divorce. Give yourself some time to heal. If you need to take a break from all the holiday festivities, do it! Go for a walk, start a new book, or engage in one of your favorite hobbies. Do whatever is necessary to do to take care of yourself.

Talk to Someone

If you’re feeling really overwhelmed, talk to someone. Talk to a therapist, counselor or even a friend. It’s important to have someone to talk to who will understand what you’re going through and can offer helpful advice. Talking about your feelings is a great way to help you get through tough times.
